The Front Burner FundAbout the Event
Ron Troyano of Alchemy, along with Julie Darling of Just Call Us Catering, Flor Franco of Urban Chicken and Indulge Contemporary Catering, and Maria Sparks of Cork and Platter are thrilled to announce the birth of the Front Burner Fund. The fund is the first of its kind in San Diego and the newly formed 501c-3 non-profit will serve as a monetary benefactor to help cover emergency medical needs and healthcare costs of the independent “back of house” culinary community. The foundation will kick off its inaugural fundraising event on Tuesday, June 12th, 5:30pm to midnight at Alchemy. Over 10 local celebrated chefs and 5 food trucks from across San Diego County will come together to prepare a variety of seasonally inspired and flavor-forward dishes to show their support.

The passion project of four leaders in the local culinary community, Troyano, Darling, Franco, and Sparks, the Front Burner Fund was designed to help support local chefs and kitchen staff finance the often insurmountable costs of emergency medical care. Proceeds from this fundraising event have been designated to benefit Alchemy Executive Chef Ricardo Heredia and will provide monetary support for his critical corrective eye surgery. Event proceeds and donations will be collected and dispersed to future Front Burner Fund recipients throughout the year.

“Not only will the Front Burner Fund bring the culinary community closer together,” says Troyano, “We are hopeful that it will also bring some much needed awareness to the cause and the medical needs of our local culinary talents.”

Participating chefs/restaurants include: Hanis Cavin (Carnitas’ Snack Shack), Miguel Valdez (The Red Door Restaurant and Wine Bar), Alex Carballo (Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens), Craig Jimenez (Craft & Commerce), Chad White (Gabardine), Tina Luu (International Culinary School at The Art Institute San Diego), Ron Oliver (The Marine Room), Ben Rollins (What’s Ben Baking), Cruz Caudillo (Praline Patisserie), Tommy Fraioli (http://www.searocketbistro.com/), and Sarah Dudeck (Hamilton’s Tavern). Participating food trucks include: Casanova Fish Tacos, Mangia Mangia, Ocean Beach Seafood, Sushi on a Roll, The Roast Coach and Miss Sushi.

Local microbreweries will be sponsoring the event along with Big Hammer Wines and will give guests the opportunity to pair some of the city’s finest food with the finest cocktails, wine and brew. Guests can also partake in exciting culinary-themed activities throughout the evening. Each tasting ticket purchased will include one complimentary drink, one raffle ticket (prizes include a dinner packages, a spa vacation and much more), and access to all tastings. Event tickets can be purchased for $25 per person at Alchemy Restaurant, or from Brown Paper Tickets.
