Modern Times Craft Beer Can Release Party at Carnitas' Snack Shack

Join us Saturday afternoon at Carnitas’ Snack Shack North Park for the Modern Times Craft Beer Can Release party!

San Diego beer guru Nate Soroko (Toronado, Modern Times, etc) will be on-hand for event at The Pig Pen, our outdoor patio bar from 12pm until 4pm-ish, or whenever the cans are gone.

Modern Times is an up-and-coming craft brewery here in San Diego, known for its flavorful home-brew inspired offerings. They just started canning their flagship brews, and we have a bunch of them! Pretty cool cans too, by award-winning Austin design firm Helms Workshop.

Modern Times Blazing World Amber, 6.8% ABV, 85 IBU
This beer is the stickiest of the icky. It’s a luxuriously hoppy amber loaded up with intemperate quantities of Nelson, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops, which are some of the fruitiest, dankest hops sweet, sweet money can buy. Despite its amber hue, Blazing World is pleasingly dry, sporting a lightly bready malt backbone that serves as platform for the huge & complex hop profile.

Modern Times Fortunate Islands Hoppy Wheat, 4.8% ABV, 46 IBU
Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of an uber-hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.

Modern Times Black House Oatmeal Coffee Stout, 5.8% ABV, 40 IBU
Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast their own coffee, which allows them to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how they roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer that’s incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish.

Modern Times Lomaland Saison, 5.5% ABV, 30 IBU
Lomaland is an earthy, rustic Belgian-style farmhouse ale that’s both complex and quaffable. It smells like hay, pepper, and friendly sunshine. Its dry, cracker-like body and lightly-hoppy finish makes it a beautiful compliment to food. They named Lomaland after the brilliantly crazy utopian community that was the first settlement built in Point Loma, the San Diego neighborhood where the Modern Times Fermentorium is located.

Chef Andrea Davis of Andrea’s Truffles is making up a special batch of Modern Times Coffee Oatmeal Stout chocolate truffles.

Farmer Jack Ford has supplied us with some pastured pork shoulder from his TAJ Farms. So naturally, Chefs Hanis Cavin, Max Bonacci and Sarge Fults will be cooking them up into some Modern Times beer-braised pork tacos!
